ECOWAS make moves to adopt measures to control Birth rate

Recent information coming from the Secretariat of the Economic Community of West African States is that there is a plan to cut the birth rate in the West African sub-region by half by 2030.

ECOWAS will call for countries to adopt measures including universal access to family planning, improved education for women and better health care of children, to bring about “a rapid, voluntary decline” in the birth rate.

This is wrong. Our population in West Africa is not our problem. The problem is the failure of institutions and corruption. What ECOWAS should be focusing on is to help build these weak institutions and help to reduce corruption in the sub-region. If they do this and succeed, you would not be finding hordes of our youths crossing the seas in search of greener pastures.
